These proposed price increases are ridiculous. I have worked in telecom for
nearly 2 decades. Price compression has allowed significantly faster speeds
for less expense over the course of that time. The rates for voice services
are at historic lows. Why is this trend not applicable to TLDs?

The technologies and underlying infrastructure leveraged to prop up TLD
root servers must be in the same situation. I realize that things have
changed a bit from a security standpoint, and that does add some cost to
the overall operations. However, these cost increases should be drastically
offset by the much lower cost of hardware, the innovation of cloud
infrastructure, and aways declining bandwidth costs.

I would just like to go on record that I am vehemently opposed to these
price increases. There is also the question of the $20 million in funds
changing hands from Verisign and ICANN. In these troublesome worldly times,
transparency is more imperative than ever, especially when it entails a
nonprofit. How is this "payment" to be spent?
