[Comments-com-amendment-3-03jan20] Changes in the contract with Verisign

Dear ICCAN,

I want to express my deep preoccupation for the changes to the contract you have with Verisign, Inc.

You’ve made these changes in secret, without consulting or incorporating feedback from the ICANN community or Internet users. Although ICANN has a history of making similar deals behind closed doors, and also of ignoring unified opposition against such action, we are focused on leading the fight against big price increases that will harm .COM domain users (and the Internet as a whole), making .COM domains less accessible and more expensive for everybody.

This will directly attack the democratic access of the internet and owning a domain, all for an additional $20 million dollars over five years Verisign agreed to pay ICANN to support its domain name system initiatives, without any clarity about how ICANN will spend the money, or who will ensure that the funds are properly spent on domain infrastructure.

I urge you to change this decision, as like me a lot of .COM domain holders will abandon this domain and we will all lose with this decision, done for a short profit of a small number of people!

Looking forward hearing your answer on this,

Pedro Pinto
