Proposed Amendment 3 to the .COM Registry Agreement
I believe the proposal’s price increase scheme places an undue burden on many smaller businesses that rely on web URL’s for their livelihood while providing no additional ROI for those customers of the service. The increased demand naturally creates a growing profit base for ICANN and Verisign both without forced increases. Without market competition, these increases are arbitrary at best, and appear more to be a profit scheme to benefit only the larger players in both the regulatory and consumer markets. Driving a further wedge between end-user trust on the internet and a multitude of sites is the likely outcome of this cost-shifting, which will drive more sites to alternate TLDs and reduce confidence in many reputable sites.
