In regards to the wholesale price increases to domain registrars for .com domains, it's probably best to adjust them to no more than the rate of inflation.  7% annually on 3-year cycles with 2-year hiatuses will outstrip the rate of inflation by an ever-increasing margin.

That runs the risk of killing private and smaller sites in the long run.

On a side note, I'm curious if the actual expense of domain administration is remaining steady (adjusted for inflation), or if the economies of scale are gradually reducing per-domain administration expenses.
