[Comments-com-amendment-3-03jan20] .com domain name price increases

I strongly discourage ICANN from accepting amendment 3 to the .com registry
agreement as written today.

A compounding 7% increase in .com fees each year for four out of every six
years is enormous! Letting this be the norm is unacceptable to the average
buyer of domain names. It’s yet another way to reduce the democratization
if the Internet. And all so Verisign can make more money. Shame.

Some ways to mitigate how egregious this is:
- agree on this allowed price increase rule but only for the current 6 year
agreement (not indefinitely)
- create a corresponding cap for the total maximum increase allowed between
2020 and 2030 that is sizably lower than 71% (that’s 7% per year for 8 of
the next 10 years! yuck)
- reduce the 7% annual maximum increase to 2%
- perform multiple of the above recommendations

Thanks
- Andrew
