If ".COM wholesale domain prices can grow by more than 70% over and above current prices over the next decade." - it is completely blatant that they will, and as a result the use of the .COM domain will become exclusively utilised by certain types of business'. The iconic status of the domains history will vanish and become nothing more than a capitalist symbol of power, if price driving is no longer because of demand and cultural relevance of the domain name but because of structural price increase at a wholesale level. individuals, small companies and non-profit projects will simply use alternative domains.
