The result of the price increases to .com will tarnish it's reputation as
being the entry point to an online presence. The first impressions to
future potential business owners down the road to the new prices will cause
them to pivot to other tld's. Although not an overnight change, these will
stack up as we will see more mainstream marketed domains using other more
"modern" tld's, such as ".io" or ".party". This is especially dangerous as
more internet savvy demographics shift into consuming and creating the
internet. With their already existant extra experiences with domains that
don't end with .com, examples like "discord.gg" or "scribl.io", they won't
have much issue with shifting to those kinds of tld's.
