Verisign already has too much control and influence for a for-profit 
organization to have in their space.

The lack of transparency allows for quite damning statements like this one:

ICANN must increase the transparency of these all of its processes. 
Please publish recordings or at least minutes of meetings.
When major influx of cash is in play, please be very clear about how it 
might impact the "Operating Plan and Budget and Five-Year Operating Plan".
