I can understand the incentive to increase prices of .com domains. I can understand the need to increase prices to better support a growing network of domains that use this widely popular service. However the current plan of action seeks to put .com domains out of the budget of many small site host. People who pay for a .com domain for its widespread recognition but who may not make money off their website are going to have to start thinking twice about using the domain they may have used for years. 

This change obviously only serves to segregate domains into those utilized by large corporations or wealthy individuals and the rest of the internet. 

.com is the most recognized and accessible domain extension. Do not proceed with a price change that will hurt American consumers.
