I have read the proposed change and there is no public reason for anyone outside of Verisign to condone this deal. Prices overall should go down, not up. That's what happens in an economy with competition in it. Monopolies, yes, they rise their prices whenever they want. Raising the .COM TLD prices just opens the door to rise prices on every other TLD. That's not fair to the consumer. What does this do to the industry overall where resellers already charge a pretty hefty markup on parked domains.
IF the deal was targeted to those entities who don't use the domain but only have it parked waiting for a buyer, I can see a reason since it would probably democratize the market a little more. But to do it blindly to all it's just a kick in the back for the consumers and just an artificial excuse to rise prices overall just because.
I urge you to don't do this.
