Because a registry has a monopoly on a particular name, a user who has registered that name cannot rely on competition to keep prices in check. This is a clear case where regulation is necessary to protect the people from undesirable rent-seeking behaviour.

A regulator that decides to remove price controls despite being extremely aware of the lack of competition must be regarded as negligent and hostile to an accessible Internet. Why is it reasonable to potentially impose a 1000% price increase on registrants?

For the removal of price controls to not be absurd, there must first be relevant competition between registries. Until that is reality, you need to agree with the community and reject your proposal.

Thank you,
