Comment on the Proposal for Chinese Script Root Zone Label Generation Rules

Chinese Domain Name Consortium (“CDNC”) appreciates the opportunity to comment on this Proposal.

CDNC would like to congratulate CGP members on reaching this important milestone after taking much effort amid hardship and longsome liaison. We are pleased to see this success after 6 years of hard work.

CDNC would also like to express appreciation to Japanese GP, the Korean GP and the ICANN IDN program for their assistance in the formation of the CGP proposal.

CDNC considers the CGP proposals are well thought, and that the proposed rules are able to handle variants at the root level in good order.

Regarding variant handling at the second level, since RFC4713 published in 2006, CDNC variant handling principles along with the CDNC variant table have been deploying at the second level by major Chinese language ccTLD and Chinese language gTLD registries. CDNC will continue to provide the guidelines to registries and registrars. We anticipate Chinese language will be widely used in domain name.

In this context, CDNC trusts that the CGP proposal, once being adopted by ICANN at the root level, will provide a coherent and satisfying Chinese domain name user experience on the Internet.

Yours sincerely,

Prof. Hualin Qian
Co-Chair of CDNC

Prof. Shian-Shyong Tseng
Co-Chair of CDNC
