The Brazilian hosts have prepared the attached document with some good
common sense security information. Some additional information:

The back of your registration badge has local numbers for emergencies -
keep these with you when you leave the meeting venue.

Some specific information regarding taxis, The "blue and red" cabs are
based in the Guarulhos airport area only and are not allowed to pick up
passengers in the Sao Paulo city area. City regulations...
There is a different radio taxi operator in this area.
It's the "Vermelho e Branco" - "red and white"- radio táxi.
[obviousltheir fleet is red and white].
Their phone number is +.55.11.3146-4000, they run on a 24/7 basis, their
dispatcher [and most of the drivers] are English spoken persons and they
are reliable.

Additional safety information: Near the hotel, Transamerica, is the
Shopping Centre Morumbi shopping, which is apparently very nice. Another
one is Market place, which is beside the Morumbi, but not as large. If
you need to exchange money, you can do it at the hotel.

Most places take Amex, Visa and Diners. Normally the gratuity in
restaurants is 10%, most places, this will be included in the bill. Some
of the more upmarket restaurants will come with a stamp saying ?Servico
nao Incluso?. Do not leave bags unattended, and as previously mentioned,
carry laptops, luggage etc in the trunk of the car. If you are in a
restaurant, one should stay at the table, while the others are
organizing their food.
