Hi all,

During the HIT/CC discussions and negotiations with other SO/AC leaders, I pushed back on DOH being worthy of a HIT, so there may be a mis-perception that GNSO members are not interested in the subject. I did this in part to try to prioritize the sessions and (successfully) reduce the number from 7 to 4, but if GNSO members are interested, I’d like to think we can and should be included in the session development.

DOH has massive ramifications for registrars and registries, as well as anyone involved in infrastructure.

It’s one of the few times I’ve seen a HIT being proposed that genuinely meets the criteria, as opposed to yet another panel on $topic where it’ll just be yet another rehashing of previous arguments and positions

I indeed hope the ISPCP can be involved somehow, maybe other GNSO constituencies would be interested too. Anyway I’ll go back to our constituency for this, but I would expect we can do better than 64 where some people duly noted the potential impact for the ISPs during the DoH session when none were in the room – unsurprising given this had precisely been scheduled during the closed ISPCP session :s

Hello Councilors, and with thanks to Philippe for highlighting the work that’s begun on some of the cross-community/high-interest topic sessions at ICANN65 – this note is to let you know that ICANN staff who will be working with the respective community groups on each of the sessions will be following up with each group’s leaders later today. For the GNSO, the specific session for which we will be asking for your leadership is the consolidated session on EPDP Phase One implementation, impact on related policies etc. We expect that the the ccNSO, SSAC and ISPCPC will be involved in the other sessions.

*       Why?

To make the ICANN65 High Interest Session on DNS over https (DoH) in Marrakech a success.

*       What is needed?

We seek volunteers from the broader ccTLD community who could help planning this session. First five volunteers will work jointly with colleagues from SSAC. Volunteers from SSAC have already started putting a straw man together.

If you are interested in helping us shape the DoH session in Marrakech, kindly reply to this e-mail by the end of this week. Important: knowledge about DoH is a requirement.

*       Topic: DNS over https (DoH)
*       Session goal: present the technology, implications, benefits, and problems in various use cases/environments
*       The DoH HIT session at ICANN65 is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, 25 June 2019 (15:15-16:45) in Marrakech.
