[council] Motion for EPDP phase 2 final report

Hi Marie, all,

Thanks for your clarifying question about the EPDP Phase 2 vote(s).

The Council leadership team and staff are planning 3 separate votes on the Phase 2 recommendations. In viewing the resolved clauses, the plan is as follows:

Vote 1:  Resolved clauses 1a and 1b together

Vote 2:  Resolved clause 2 alone

Vote 3: Resolved clause 3 and 4 together

As we haven’t received any suggested edits to the motion and/or resolved clauses over the last 9 days, I am not expecting any proposed amendments during tomorrow’s call. With three votes scheduled and a busy agenda, we will need to be efficient.

Can you also confirm how many votes there will actually be: one per each Resolved Clause (thus 4, assuming 1a and 1b are one vote), two (Resolved Clauses 1 and 2) or one for the entire motion?

Not a concern but just a quick clarification, please. I see that we have one motion, but after leadership’s proposal in August and as confirmed by Caitlin during the Council webinar*, can you confirm that we will be voting twice, once for Resolved Clause 1 and separately for Resolved Clause 2?

Marie, if you are asking about the SSAD and priority 2 recs in the Final Report, the idea is that those are considered separately, but this may happen as part of the same motion (allowing for voting on individual resolved clauses). ... Having two motions would just mean duplication of whereas clauses instead of packaging it into one.

Hi all,

If anyone has questions or concerns about the draft motion language, please flag those now so we can address them prior to the Council meeting on 24 September. Noting that we’ve now had the EPDP Phase 2 Final Report for six weeks, and all minority statements for two weeks, I am not inclined to grant a deferral request of this vote barring a significant and substantive reason.
