Dear Councillors,

As we ran out of time to adequately address Item 8 from the 22 April Council meeting (wrap-up from the Extraordinary Meeting), Council leadership committed to summarizing where we believe things currently stand for three of the four agenda items (an update on the accuracy scoping team was sent under a separate cover on Wednesday).

EPDP Phase 1 Rec 27 (Wave 1.5)

  * Two action items were identified during the Extraordinary Meeting, which are currently being completed:
     * ICANN GDS staff to provide the GNSO Council an update on the estimated level of effort, from ICANN org perspective, for completing the work of PPSAI IRT
     * ICANN GDS Staff to reach out to PPSAI IRT members to gauge their interest and availability for reconvening and completing the work of the IRT
  * The Council's next steps will be informed by the outcome of these two action items.

GNSO Council Consideration of SAC114

  * During the Extraordinary Meeting, the Council agreed to form a small team to evaluate SAC114 and prepare a response to the Board. After a call for additional Council volunteers that ended on 16 April, that team currently consists of just Maxim Alzolba and Jeff Neuman (GNSO liaison to the GAC), who are just beginning their work. As this work remains in its early stages, please consider volunteering asap on the council list to help support this work.

GNSO Framework for Continuous Improvement

  * We heard some concerns about the complexity of the framework but are also concerned that as the framework is debated, the relevant work items that would be assigned to the Task Forces (a number of which reside in the 0-1 month range in the ADR) are not being worked on and no specific alternative proposals have been put forward for how to address these work items. As indicated during this 22 April Council meeting, leadership and staff will also consider options for not leaving 'stale' items under the 0-1 month range in the ADR. To help determine next steps for the framework and/or possible alternative approaches, Council leadership has scheduled a meeting with SG/C Chairs on 3 May 2021.

We believe this is the current state of play for these three items from the Extraordinary Meeting and welcome your thoughts, suggestions or concerns.

Regards,
Philippe
