Thanks Greg. Please find attached a short draft letter based on my previous comments. I am not sure who is responsible for the proposal, so have assumed this should be addressed to Giovanni Seppia – hopefully our secretariat colleagues can correct this as needed.

All – your input on this proposed feedback would be most welcome.

Thanks for this Susan. Noting the 30 November deadline for input (and the US holiday beginning this Thursday), the turnaround for drafting something that could obtain support from Council seems very tight. We have not heard from other volunteers to draft anything on this point. If you’re willing to draft something more formal quickly (of if there are any other interested volunteers 😊), maybe we can consider as a Council. Otherwise it may be more efficient to raise with your constituency. Thoughts?

Thanks,
Greg

Hi all
Although overall I appreciate the need for, and am very supportive of the proposed process for retiring non-policy recommendations, I do have some reservations as to the timing of when the community is brought into this. Step 1 is staff led, involving the assessment against a set of criteria, including a “Lack of broad community support as implementation work progresses”. Step 2 then involves the preparation of an Issues Paper, which goes to the relevant Board Committee/Caucus. That Board Committee/Caucus can decide either to maintain the recommendation, or to proceed with the retirement process. It is only after this point that community input seems to be envisaged. This seems to pose a risk that the Board Committee/Caucus might be making its decision on whether or not to proceed based on incomplete information, i.e. without the perspective of the community. I appreciate that this isn’t a final decision, but earlier community input on the Issues Paper might be beneficial.
