[council] organising an informational session for the Council

Hi All,

Thanks for the feedback. The SPS is for strategic planning (as opposed to normal business). A briefing on the ICANN Grant Program seems like normal business and therefore I think it is more appropriate as an agenda item at a regular meeting. If there are no objections we can try to add this to an upcoming meeting instead of the SPS.

On a related note, I think the conversation around WSIS +20 may impact our overall strategy as a council so I’m inclined to include it. However, I’d like to focus on specific and (hopefully) actionable questions such as:

1. What are the specific threats to ICANN's MSM (e.g., what is the process by which ICANN could lose control of the IANA function)?
2. Do these considerations around WSIS +20 impact or change Council’s strategy for this year?

Bruna and Desiree, I think you two volunteered to present on this topic. Do these questions make sense?

We will be sending out the SPS agenda shortly.

Thanks,
Greg

I agree with Anne—a discussion on the Grant Program would be helpful—especially in light of the bylaws issue that we are dealing with.

Thanks Greg. I would also suggest the Council have a session at SPS where the new Director of the ICANN Grant Program would present a summary to the Council. Her name is Shayna (forget last name) and she is based in D.C. I think Giovanni may also be in D.C. at that time. It's probably a 30 minute slot based on the slide presentation done in Hamburg which conflicted with the GNSO Council wrap-up session.

Hi Desiree and all,

It'd be indeed helpful to have a session during the SPS meeting. I think this topic would benefit from a F2F setting.
Thanks!

Best,
Manju

Dear all

As a follow up to the ccNSO and GNSO Council joint session at the ICANN78 and the topic on ICANN, the Global Digital Compact and WSIS +20 Review, which is now a goal for the ICANN CEO, and further to the request expressed by Paul at the Council meeting to organise an informational session for the Council only, may I suggest that we look at the opportunity to organise this session during the Council's SPS meeting end of this month, or soon afterwards?

I would be happy to help with any aspects of organising this follow-up discussion and also together with other Councillors who volunteered.

Best
Desiree
