Hi all, and thank you Ariel,

I just wanted to reinforce what Ariel described in the below email. The intent of the IDN EPDP is not to revisit things but to build upon past work, namely SubPro. To this extent, we are pivoting to streamline the initial draft and ensure the wording of the policy questions fits the intent. Personally, I think our first draft helped us talk about what we need to do next.

Speaking of next steps, a mapping document has been shared to highlight the issues that had been already discussed and the remaining others that may need to be considered by this drafting team (As Ariel pointed out, the mapping table may be improved as certain topics may not be IDN specific i.e. addressed somewhere else outside Section 25). This is going to be the basis for the next iteration of the draft charter. We are aiming to share a new version by end of week.

Best,
Dennis

Hello Tomslin,

Thank you for catching up on the call and asking the question.

The policy principle questions (e.g., “same entity”, RZ-LGR as the sole source) are originated from several important recommendations from the IDN variant TLD management staff paper as well as the RZ-LGR Technical Utilization document. As emphasized during the call, these policy principles have already been confirmed by the SubPro PDP in the form of final recommendations. The intent of asking these questions in this EPDP charter is not to encourage the future working group to revisit the policy principles or reopen the closed issues.

The reason why these questions are still included in the charter is because they are gating questions to all the subsequent questions that the future EPDP needs to deliberate. As a logical first step, we want to make sure that the EPDP will make it clear if they agree with these policy principles and have no reason to revisit the prior work. As such, the EPDP can then proceed with discussing the subsequent questions based on a consistent assumption.

Incorporating suggestions from Jeff and others, Dennis and staff will revise these policy principle related questions by making concise statements, referencing work already done, and clarifying the intent of these questions.

Hope this helps.

Best Regards,
Ariel

Hi all,

My apologies for missing the meeting at the last meeting. I had a family emergency.

I have listened and read through the meeting chat and this comment from Ariel caught my attention:
"The charter questions are drafted in the way that we want to make sure the policy principles are confirmed first by the EPDP". I understand Jeff objects to this and Jeff's reason for this is that the EPDP should not be asked to confirm the policy principles of another PDP.

Can I please ask Ariel to explain why the group's leadership and staff believe it is important for these policy principles be confirmed by the EPDP before subsequent discussions? This wasn't clear to me from the meeting recording. And sorry if I am asking something that is obvious to everyone else.

Regards,
Tomslin
