Hi Steve,

To give some more meat to it, its generally offered to anyone using the LogicBoxes platform (also DI owned) unless opted out.  For example we are opted out and have our own service.

I will take my hat off to PrivacyProtect in saying they are responsive - they do not mess around, and will act.

This service is offered in connection with registrations from at least one accredited registrar, as a free add-on service.  http://publicdomainregistry.com/privacy-protection/ That is not what I think of as a standalone service. I don’t know whether the service is owned or controlled by a registrar but perhaps someone else on this list does.

“Privacy Protection is a WHOIS privacy service for domain name owners that we provide through our partners.” http://privacyprotect.org/about-privacyprotection/ So perhaps some of those partners are accredited registrars.
