The contract to dig the canal has just been awarded by the ICANN Board in an unadvertised no-bid process to Acme Canal and Domain Services, a recently incorporated company based in Suez, Egypt.

The Board Resolution relating to the contract award is being withheld from public view after Board  determination that its release would undermine the stability of the management of the DNS.

(After all, it is still April 1 ;-)

After extensive discussions and delicate compromises, consensus was reached to dig a canal down to the Mediterranean, in order for the QEII to simply ride the current up and over the mountains.

When folks in the technical community pointed out that water actually flows downhill, the Working Group shrugged and said that this was an implementation issue for the IRT.
