Thanks for the question. At the time that the SSC charter was originally drafted, it was anticipated that Council might delegate the selection of the GNSO Representative to the Empowered Community Administration to the SSC on a regular basis, but it has since become standard practice for a member of Council leadership to serve in this role. Members of the Council leadership team work together to determine which of them is best positioned to serve. Council then passes a resolution confirming this individual. The proposed update to the charter text does not suggest removing any responsibilities from the SSC, but is rather revising the language to reflect examples of current assignments it regularly receives. Council is always free to assign new selection processes to the SSC, regardless of whether they are included in the list of examples in the charter.
