Notes:

Proposed Agenda
SSC Meeting
12 July 2023 at 1400 UTC

1. Welcome and SOI Updates

  * The purpose of this meeting is to review the results of the poll
  * Thank you to those who participated in the poll, and to the attendees who would like to share their thoughts on this call
  * The poll is one way to discuss the selection, but members may also express their thoughts verbally during this meeting, or in writing following this meeting
  * The SSC operates via full consensus, which means there needs to be full consensus on the selection of this candidate

2. SSC assignment and selection process: GNSO Alternate Non-Registry Liaison to the CSC<https://community.icann.org/display/GSSC/GNSO+Alternate+Non-Registry+Liaison+to+the+CSC>:

a. Candidate evaluation poll results

  * Five SSC members responded to the poll; four did not take the poll
  * If members felt they did not have enough information to respond to the question, they were allowed to skip the question, so some questions were skipped
  * The questions and responses from the poll are included below.

  * Based on the application materials and your own knowledge about the candidate, please rate the candidate's direct experience with, and knowledge of, the IANA naming function. The lowest possible score is 1 and highest possible score is 10.

  *   1 response for 4; 1 response for 5; 2 responses for 7

  * Based on the application materials and your own knowledge about the candidate, please rate the candidate's analytical skills, including ability to interpret quantitative and qualitative evidence as well as capacity to draw conclusions purely based on evidence. The lowest possible score is 1 and highest possible score is 10.

  *   1 response for 7, 2 responses for 8, 1 response for 9

  * Based on the application materials and your own knowledge about the candidate, please rate the candidate's ability to work and communicate in written and spoken English. The lowest possible score is 1 and highest possible score is 10.

  *   5 responses for 9.

  * Based on the application materials and your own knowledge about the candidate, please rate the candidate's communication skills. The lowest possible score is 1 and highest possible score is 10.

  *   2 responses for 8; 3 responses for 9

  * Based on the application materials and your own knowledge about the candidate, please rate the candidate's experience in managing and/or participating in committees (e.g. meeting coordination, reporting, and escalation) in order to contribute meaningfully to CSC processes. The lowest possible score is 1 and highest possible score is 10.

  *   2 responses for 8, 2 responses for 9, 1 response for 10

  * Based on the application materials and your own knowledge about the candidate, please rate the candidate's demonstrated ability in relationship management to support diplomatic discussion, consensus driven decision making, and productive negotiation. The lowest possible score is 1 and highest possible score is 10.

  *   1 response for 7, 3 responses for 8, 1 response for 9

  * Based on the application materials and your own knowledge about the candidate, please rate the candidate's demonstrated interest in becoming involved in the CSC. The lowest possible score is 1 and highest possible score is 10.

  *   2 responses for 5, 2 responses for 7, 1 response for 10

  * Are there any other factors that should be considered (either positive or negative)?

  * highly recommend the candidate for the role

  * While the candidate comes with a background in a related area, it is difficult to evaluate the candidate's direct skills with regard to the purpose of the CSC, but the resume suggest a capable candidate and a quick learner.

  * There is not a huge amount of specific IANA or CSC specific details on his EOI or CV. It is not sure whether or not has just not provided such detail - (hence the neutral score on both questions relating to IANA and CSC knowledge). This being noted however considering the position as an alternate, which permits, in particular, the gaining of knowledge in a support role, such is not an issue of huge concern. Assessing the core competencies addressed, outside of the specific IANA and CSC requirements, given his professional experience, as well as his involvement in both ISOC, NCUC/NCSG, I would not have any specific concerns that he cannot come up to speed on such matters in fulfilling the role in due course.
  *

b. Candidate Selection Discussion

  * Agree with the observations in the additional comments section. The candidate may not demonstrate direct knowledge of the CSC and IANA, but they do demonstrate significant knowledge of what they become involved in and an aptitude for being a quick learner and involved communicator. Believe committee should recommend this candidate for the role
  * This candidate comes with a high recommendation from community members who have worked with him in the past, including the vice chair of the SSC
  * Although the specific competencies of the CSC are not present, this candidate would be a good alternate
  * Agree, and in depth knowledge of IANA details is not necessary because there is the opportunity to learn on the job and they have a demonstrated ability to do so
  * From all of the comments made today, all present members have the same viewpoint. Considering this is an alternate position, requisite knowledge could be acquired on the job. Considering this candidate for the position is in order.
  * There appears to be consensus on the candidate, subject to any objections on the list.
  * Support Staff will send a message, requesting for absent members to express any objections or additional comments via the mailing list. Other members will have 48 hours to object. We will insert the candidate’s name into the placeholder motion.
  * Many thanks to Arinola for leading these discussions.
