Sandra, I just saw this. Apologies if I am delayed in responding. I am interested in contributing and helping to shape the course. While I am located in the US, my focus is on the developing countries. I also have a background in Organizational Development in my academic training and in the earlier years of my professional career, so I hope to be able to contribute.

As some of us are trying to finalize travel plans, it will be very helpful to know shortly before we finalize travel.

Also, can we clarify: is it a total of five, or potentially more, if there are qualified volunteers?

Marilyn

Subject: [ICANN Academy WG] Intercultural Awareness Program - Call for Work Team Members until 31 August 3017

Dear All, During ICANN59, the Academy WG announced a new ICANN Academy Intercultural Awareness Program<https://community.icann.org/display/LTP/ICANN+Academy+Intercultural+Awareness+Program> will be developed in cooperation with Incite Learning, Inc. a professional development firm that has been working with ICANN for several years.

A first pilot is scheduled for 3rd November, the last day of ICANN60 in Abu Dhabi.

We are now calling for Work Team Members to help developing and facilitating this course. Ideally such a team should consist of up to 5 people, from different stakeholder groups, representing all regions of the world. This team will work over the next 2 month (and beyond) in close cooperation with Incite Learning. Team members will be also supporting the conduct of this course as community facilitator.

Please reply until 31 August if you are seriously interested to help shaping this course. If more than 5 people show interest we have to make a selection based on geographical, stakeholder and gender diversity.

A call for Work Team Members for the other two programmes of the ICANN Academy (Chairing Skills and Leadership Programme) will follow.

About this new programme:

What: Understanding cultural nuance and differences is a challenge for every global organization. ICANN is rich in its cultural diversity and global reach. Developing Cultural Intelligence at ICANN is a learning experience focused on improving cultural knowledge and awareness; what we are calling Cultural Intelligence. We will examine our behaviours and beliefs and how they impact our awareness and interaction when working with people from different cultures. We will explore the dual dimensions of culture like: individualist vs. collectivist; direct vs. indirect; formal vs. informal; and hierarchical vs. democratic. Leveraging our in room talent there will be much interaction, discussion and activity about similarities and differences around the world and around the room. Additionally, we will consider specific cultural challenges ICANN deals with and how to best overcome them.

When: The experience will begin with a webinar before our face-to-face meeting on November 3rd in Abu Dhabi. After our time together we will have follow-up phone calls to address related topics that came up during the meeting.

Why: The topic of Culture has come up repeatedly during the ICANN Academy Leadership Programme. The request was made to address this in a separate experience.

Who: Ideally participants should have participated in the ICANN Academy Leadership Programme. Alumni’s will be offered the first opportunity to register for this course until 31 August. After this date we will offer available seats to the wider ICANN community.

Best Sandra
Chair of the ICANN Academy WG
