[Npoc-discuss] The new charter of NPOC - members' review

Hello dearest Friends,

I've joined the NPOC in late 2012 invited by our beloved and belated friend
Béranger (RIP to him). He was one of the founders of this constituency,
founded in June 2011. NPOC is the last constituency in ICANN community
ecosystem. It assemble only the représentative on not-for-profit
organisations not individuals even if those individuals are working for
themselves as a not-for-profit activists.
IMHO, an operational concern is addressed by an organization not an
individual.
Please, don't add more confusion in this atmosphere.
My 2.cents.
With my warm regards.

Hi Dave
Thanks for your comments. You obviously have not been part of a non profit
that is dysfunctional where people on leadership or as members feel that
they cannot contribute. Where the leader just does what he/she wants and
does not take advice or suggestions. I have been on these groups and others
like it. I know the struggles these people face and they would like another
outlet to get involved. If npoc accepted individual members they then could
join.

If your primary reason to be in NPOC is to not be in NCUC, you should not
be in NPOC. You should join the NCSG and not join any of its constituencies
if you do not qualify or want to be in either of them.

The NPOC mission IS to represent non-profits.

I can see some special cases for people specifically involved in
non-profits, such as someone who retired from a non-profit position or
otherwise is heavily involved in the non-profit - some provision has been
made, I think they would still be best left as observers.

The idea that we should allows individuals just to allow people who feel
more ‘aligned’ with NPOC

I also know Government people in other countries who are aligned with At
Large/NPOC but feel they cannot join either of these groups even if that is
their passion because of their employment

You know people who can’t join NPOC because they aren’t a non-profit? The
system seems to be working correctly.
Honesty the argument that we should allow people who work to the government
to join because of their ‘alignment with At Large/NPOC’ has strongly
convinced me that we shouldn’t.

Hi
I disagree. A person may wish to be active in npoc because they believe in
their mission, goals and objectives but do not believe in ncuc, so you are
in effect saying no we do not want you? Why? What is the harm? The goal is
to have active reps who believe and advocate and are active on the npoc
mission so why exclude people. There are many reasons why you may want to
join as an individual, ranging from you are in the govt, your org is not
interested in applying or the org will not appoint you, you do not have an
org whom you belong to who meets your own values

Hi Remmy,

Individual members is a no no no BIG NO, we solely NGO focused it won't
change. You want to be individual go NCUC. So our mission is definitely
correct and should stay as it is. We done with the charter for me, Roaul
did a great work on this, so why take us back on something that is done and
dusted Remmy, time to move on.

Please Raoul lets move on. kudos to your work.

Thank you
