[Npoc-discuss] Ethos Capital, seeking to run .org registry, makes concessions

Joan, et. al.,
The core message in all of this is that the key issue is "...the Registry
Agreement...". Whatever views we may hold about other aspects of the
pending sale, the nature of the registry agreement between ICANN and the
owners of the .org registry is the central issue. It is important that both
the ICANN Board and the ICANN administration understand that. Failure to
place needed protections in the agreement will risk two consequences. One,
of course, is the extent to which the .org registry stays faithful to, or
strays from, the community's public interest concerns. The other is that
how ICANN handles this will be a litmus test on ICANN's multistakeholder
model. Given the concerns of the ICANN constituencies, failure to consult
and failure to properly amend the registry agreement will tarnish ICANN's
claim to being an inclusive multistakeholder organization.
