The "protection" idea doesn't hold water for me under the current
implementation. Since a WLS subscription only lasts a year, to really
"protect" your name you need to renew your WLS annually, and the base
cost doing so is four times that of actually renewing your domain (which
you'll need to do anyway).

So WLS gives no real upside or protection to current domain holders.
