Hello Graeme,

On 21 February 2018, ICANN sent the attached RRA Amendment request to the RrSG.

Per the RRA Amendment Procedure, ICANN has since approved the request.

ICANN acknowledges comments included in the documents from fTLD noting that some of the changes included in the RRA are intended to "respond to appropriate national privacy laws... , in particular the General Data Protection Regulation." As you may be aware, ICANN has consulted with contracted parties, European data protection authorities, legal experts, and interested governments and community stakeholders to understand the potential impact of the GDPR to personal data that participants in the gTLD domain name ecosystem collect, display and process (including registries and registrars) pursuant to ICANN contracts and policies. ICANN org is working to identify a single interim model for compliance with both the GDPR and ICANN's contractual requirements concerning gTLD registration data, including registration directory services. ICANN org is consulting with the ICANN Board on possible implementation mechanisms for the interim compliance model, including new requirements and obligations for registries and registrars. ICANN's approval of the amended fTLD RRA shall not constitute a waiver of any rights ICANN may have to require different or additional obligations related to the interim model for compliance with ICANN agreements and the GDPR.
