Colleagues,

Despite the damage and concern caused by Hurricane Sandy as it moves inland along the US east coast, ICANN can confirm that the key materials stored in Culpeper, Virginia remain secure and that there has been no lapse in security.

The Culpeper Key Management Facility is built within Terremark’s NAP of the Capital Region facility. ICANN has received regular updates from Terremark and is confident that their Tropical Weather Protocol was being executed appropriately. Terremark have since declared an all-clear, and have resumed normal operations.

All ICANN operational and security monitoring systems confirm normal operations throughout the event.

Root Zone KSK ceremony 11 is scheduled to take place in Culpeper in November. ICANN expects that ceremony to proceed as planned.

If you have any concerns or questions, please don't hesitate to let us know either by replying to this message, or by sending mail to rootsign at icann.org.

Regards,

Joe Abley
Director DNS Operations
ICANN
