Dear Lesley

I'm writing on behalf of the WHOIS Review Team, to draw ccNSO members'
attention to our latest call for comment, which is at
http://www.icann.org/en/reviews/affirmation/whois-rt-discussion-paper-09jun11-en.pdf.
The call for comment closes on 23 July.

You will see that questions 3 and 11 specifically ask whether ccTLDs can
offer insights into issues like compliance with domestic laws, or approaches
to data accuracy.

Several review team members - including Kim von Arx, Mikhail Yakushev and
me - have experience of the approaches within individual ccTLDs, but the
whole team is keen to learn more about how others have approached the
challenges of WHOIS, and particularly the balance between the legitimate
needs of law enforcement, and those enforcing private law rights on the one
hand, versus individuals' legitimate expectations of privacy on the other.

We wondered whether the ccNSO (or indeed the regional organisations such as
CENTR) might be able to assist our work by sharing existing studies or
examples of good practices.

Please let me know if you have any queries. In the meantime, I look forward
to receiving comments from the ccNSO.

Kind regards

Emily Taylor
Chair
WHOIS Review Team
