Hi all,

ICANN OCTO has released a new paper today addressing the challenges posed by alternate name system, particularly those driven these days by blockchain technologies, to the security and stability of the DNS and the internet in general.

It is available at https://www.icann.org/en/system/files/files/octo-034-27apr22-en.pdf.

This could be of interest to some on this mailing list and I think discussion on the topic matches quite well the objectives of the SIFT platform. Beyond applications of blockchains to naming system, it may be interesting to dig into this a bit further and discuss/explore how far that technology can go into impacting other areas of the internet identifier system management, coordination and/or governance components. Just dropping this here.

Thanks.
