Interesting, I had no idea OS X was using geonames as well and just
assumed everyone was talking about Ubuntu Unity.

Purely technical, I expect we'll go that route (or another route) if we
can't change the timezone database, but it'll cost developer time and
won't benefit any of the other distros/DEs.
