Fine, but I think there will be friction against changing the 
abbreviations again when they've only just been changed!

Personnally, I'd be in favour of using the 'A' prefix (although my 
opinion doesn't really count).  Even if an Australian would normally use 
EST rather than AEST in everyday conversation, I'm sure they'd still 
recognize AEST in computer timestamp output and know what it meant!
