I agree, this new direction of removing data without need is too drastic.

Indeed, I have yet to see somebody on this list backing these changes, so
this doesn't even seem to be controversial.

I think it hasn't been given. The only explanation so far was that the
Theory file requires it, which has been shown not to be so.
