While this is understandable (do what you have to do to keep it
alive...), I think the fundamental issue here is that reducing the quality
of the tz distribution(s) (which were beyond outstanding) for political
reasons is very much not what many people think is, or was, the spirit of
the previous maintainership.
One could (and does :) argue that this is necessary to be able to maintain
it ("giving in to the trolls"), or that the reduction in quality is
negligent, but the fact remains that the stability is sacrificed for
political reasons.
And this is, in my book, indeed a big change in
maintainership. Personally, I do wonder what other changes will be
introduced in the future, given that political pressure is now able to
override technical decisions. I wonder if this doesn't set a precedent for
future lobbying groups.
