The Legislative Assembly of Ontario has passed a bill which would
advance standard time in the province by one hour and repeal the seasonal
clock changes — effectively putting the province on year-round daylight
saving time.

According to MPP Jeremy Roberts, who introduced the private member's bill,
the legislation would require "coordination" with neighboring jurisdictions
such as Quebec and New York state, and "would not come into effect until
the Attorney General decides it should come into effect." Indeed, the text
of the bill states that the act "comes into force on a day to be named by
proclamation of the Lieutenant Governor", who represents the Canadian
monarch.

The bill passed the assembly unanimously on its third reading and received
Royal Assent on 30 November 2020.
