[UA-discuss] SOI

Jim,

As a personal note, I find it very useful while reading emails to be able to have a rough idea of the profile and background of a contributor to the mailing list going to his/her SOI. To understand where people come from is very helpful in putting their comments in perspective.

Going back to the early days, it was introduced as a way to declare some potential conflict of interest. Whether this has been effective or not, I don’t know, but it still seems to me a fair thing to ask that, moreover, does not take more than few minutes to compile and contains in principle only information that is otherwise available.

But again it is just my point of view.

Cheers,
Roberto

They would be from several different names, none of which I recognised from UASG working group meetings or ICANN sessions, and they would use suspiciously similar turns of phrase. I suspected that those emails were from a single person or group, using false names and pretending to be multiple people. I never understood what their motivation was. Is the purpose of SOI implementation to prevent this specific problem?
