That's a good reminder, Chris D., and always important to to highlight.

But to be very clear about this, UASG is ICANN-supported, but it is not part of the ICANN traditional structure. It is neither an SO nor an AC, but an independently chartered entity made up of individuals from both within and external to the ICANN community. It is not policy-focused, nor is its remit restricted to work within ICANN’s bylaws. This gives credence to the idea that it should operate its own SOI process that doesn’t borrow from ICANN’s.

All the best,

You may not be aware, Jeff, but you are not only an observer, but rather a voting member of the group by default. That puts you in the position of being directly involved in the policy generation and outcomes of the UASG, whether you are actively pursuing that or not. Think of the UASG as one huge ICANN Working Group for practical purposes (I am not saying it is one, but I am saying in practice that's the closest comparison). Therefore, mailing list participants need to have a SOI.

Best,

As part of ICANN’s ongoing efforts to enhance transparency and accountability within the multistakeholder ecosystem, we are reaching out to verify your continued interest in receiving information from the UASG. To retain access to UASG mailing lists, you must submit your Statement of Interest (SOI) by 15 May, 2024. This practice is consistent with other groups of the ICANN community (e.g., see SOIs for GNSO, or click “New SOIs” on the left menu here.)
