Dear members of the bylaws coordination group,

We've gotten some questions on the archiving of the mailing list and the
call materials, and wanted to send a note to the coordination list on this.
As discussed during the 7 March dinner, the objective of the bylaw
coordination group was to provide a 'sounding board' for the legal teams
preparing the draft bylaws (ICANN, Sidley, Adler) to address any drafting
issues or clarifications as needed before distributed more broadly. It was
felt that the discussion should be with the coordination group, with the
representatives going back to their communities as they saw appropriate.
Especially in the short window of time for the legal teams to prepare the
draft bylaws, it was key to have a group to which the legal teams could go.

As you know, the legal teams met in Los Angeles last week for three full
days of drafting. They worked to address issues in real time, with the help
of three observers (Becky Burr, Chris Disspain, and Bernard Turcotte) to
liaise where needed. At the end of each day, the group held debrief calls
for the rest of the bylaws coordination group to address any outstanding
issues.  

After the meetings in Los Angeles, the legal teams continued to draft and
prepare the draft. There was another bylaws coordination group call
yesterday to provide a status update and, again, address any outstanding
issues. The draft bylaws are being finalized by the legal teams and will be
sent to the community tomorrow,  2 April. From that point forward, once the
draft bylaws have been delivered to the community, the mailing list archives
will be public and open for all to follow. In addition, we will publish the
Adobe and MP3 recordings of the four calls that were held as part of the
drafting process.
