Dear Thick Whois IRT Members,

Following our discussion during our last meeting, we have started to reach
out to Registrars with a call for experts to assist in the implementation of
the transition from thin to think Whois for .COM, .NET and .JOBS.

Recognizing that you may personally know relevant experts, or that you could
identify relevant expertise in other segments of the community, we would
like to request your assistance with this effort.

Below is an updated version of the communication we have used recently for
your information and use as you deem appropriate. We are aiming at holding
the first meeting with these expert in early december.

Please reach out to me if you require additional information or if you have
any suggestion.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Best Regards

Subject : Transition from thin to thick Whois - Call for volunteer experts

Dear stakeholder representatives,

The future transition of .COM, .NET and .JOBS from thin to thick Whois will
most likely affect your operations, business and customers in the coming
years. This is why ICANN is reaching out to you today.

The Thick Whois Implementation Project Team is currently seeking experts
with expertise and experience relevant to this transition to contribute
their knowledge and perspective in order to work out an effective and
detailed implementation plan. This plan will be based on the policy
recommendations that were developed by the GNSO and adopted by the ICANN
Board (see
https://www.icann.org/resources/board-material/resolutions-2014-02-07-en#2.c
).

While some practical details are still being defined, it is anticipated that
volunteer experts would form an ad hoc team and meet every week with ICANN
staff, via conference calls, for an initial period of three months. The
first meeting would most likely take place in early December 2014.

In these meetings, ICANN expects the relevant experts to share their
analysis and contribute proposals for implementation measures that would be
effective and considerate of the various needs of stakeholders.
Such implementation measures may include:
€ Requirements or prerequisites for transition
€ Timeline of implementation
€ Operational mechanisms for the transfer of data
€ Solutions to address potential privacy concerns (dependency on outcome of
legal review)
€ Stakeholder Outreach to be conducted by relevant parties

Ideally, we would like a representative set of business models and
geographic origins to be represented in this team of experts. If you are
interested in joining this effort, or know somebody who is interested,
please contact howard.li at icann.org (Registrar Services Team) or
fabien.betremieux at icann.org (Registry Services Team).

For more information on the Thick Whois Policy Recommendation and its
Implementation, please refer to the Thick Whois Implementation Working
Session which was held in October during ICANN 51 in Los Angeles:

Thank you in advance for your collaboration

Best Regards,
