All, thanks to my colleagues who will support the RDS RT, please find attached a couple of slides that provide an overview of the RDS Review Team as well as the selection process. I’ve added a slide at the end in relation to the role of the SSC in this process. I hope this is helpful in preparation for tomorrow’s meeting.

There is a bit more nuance to it. The SSC is tasked to provide its recommendations on GNSO nominations for the RDS Review Team to the GNSO Council. The GNSO Council can nominate up to 7 people to the review team. However, if it would only nominate 3, these would have a guaranteed place on the review team. Per the Bylaws, a Review Team consists of maximum 21 members (3 members per SO/AC), so this means that if an SO/AC does not nominate up to 3 candidates, additional slots may be available that can be filled by the SO/AC Chairs who make the final selection based on the nominations that have been received by the SO/ACs.

So the task of the SSC is to review the candidates that have indicated that they want to be considered for GNSO nomination which are 14 candidates in total. Per the SSC Charter, you are expected to, following your review of the candidates, to rank the candidates according to the criteria listed in the call for applications. Following the review and ranking, you will need to decide whether you recommend the GNSO Council that it endorses the top 7 ranked candidates, or less, noting that the top three ranked candidates if endorsed by the GNSO Council would be automatically selected for the review team.

Thank you for this information,

As i am new to this comittee, i would like to know if a got everything right.

If i understand well, we will need to select up to 21 people, out of around 40, and we will be able to base our choice on the list staff supplied to us along with an assessment of the qualities of the candidates.

And this people are going to work on the RDS project, whose goal is to draw a plan for the next works on the  whois/directory services ?

Although there is the expectation that the SSC will develop detailed steps and timing for each selection process it is responsible for, your first assignment may require you to immediately dive into the work as the GNSO Council expects your recommendations for nominations for the RDS Review Team in time for its next meeting on 20 April. In order to meet the GNSO Council motion and document deadline, this means that a motion and the proposed nominations would need to be submitted by 10 April.

4.      Staff has created the attached summary document with provides an overview of:

a.      The guiding principles the SSC is expected to apply

b.      The main criteria for the RDS Review Team members, taken from the call for volunteers

c.       The list of candidates that have requested GNSO endorsement, including their affiliation, a link to their application, their geographic region, staff assessment of expertise criteria (note, this assessment was carried out by staff responsible for the application process, not GNSO policy staff) and an overview of their participation in WHOIS/RDS related activities.

  *   To carry out the review and selection of GNSO endorsed candidates for the Registration Directory Service Review Team for Council consideration at the latest by its 20 April 2017 meeting.
  *   To develop the criteria and the process for the selection of the GNSO Representative to the Empowered Community for GNSO Council consideration by its June 2017 meeting, and following the approval by the GNSO Council, carry out the selection process.
  *   Following the completion of two selection processes, the GNSO Council requests the SSC to report back to the GNSO Council with its assessment of whether the charter provides sufficient guidance and flexibility to carry out its work, and/or whether any modifications should be considered. Acknowledging that this is a work in progress, the GNSO Council will review this assessment as well as whether any modifications should be considered, as well as any inconsistencies that may need to be addressed as a result of the finalization of the work of the Bylaws Drafting Team.

If there is anything else staff can do to facilitate your first meeting, please let us know. The first meeting has been scheduled for Thursday 30 March at 16.00 UTC. Call details have been sent separately.
