[UA-discuss] UASG blog on UASG030A report

Hi all

Maybe not relevant, but I noticed that my email SW did not recognise as valid email addresses “测试@电子邮件测试.中国” nor “اختبار@اختبارالبريد.شبكة” - and no big surprise so far - but what I found interesting is how the email address “用户1@后缀.services.net<mailto:1 at xn--fqr621h.services.net>” is interpreted. It is recognised as an email address (it has a valid TLD and SLD and an “@“) but the translation stops short of the chinese chars in the user id. The email address is interpreted as being "1@后缀.services.net<mailto:1 at xn--fqr621h.services.net>” - i.e. "1 at xn—fqr621h.services.net<http://fqr621h.services.net>”.

I am wondering whether in the testing of the acceptance of email addresses we include also test cases where the email address is considered “valid” but in practice truncated. Can somebody confirm that we are dealing with these cases already?

Thanks
Roberto

Looks like few mistake.

No, the report is correct.

Roundcube and Apple iOS Mail are MUAs, user mail programs that work in connection with MSAs and MDAs. When configured to work with an L2 mail server such as Courier or Postfix, they both provide good L2 mail service.

We tested them using accounts including 测试@电子邮件测试.中国 and
اختبار@اختبارالبريد.شبكة

Postfix is an MSA and MTA which also provides good L2 mail service when configured with EAI addresses. We tested it with a variety of addresses
such as 用户1@后缀.services.net<mailto:1 at xn--fqr621h.services.net>.

R's,
John

Roundcude do not provide Email Addresses , it can not be L2. It should L1
Apple iOS Mail 14.x - it can not be L2 , it should be L1
Postfix do not provide EAI addresses
L2= L1 + provides local EAI addresses
We all know roundcube and Apple Mail do not provide email addresses.
XgenPlus / Coremail provides these addresses today.

Dear All,

Here is the new UASG blog based on UASG030A report for your attention:

UASG ADDS SPAM FILTER TESTING TO EVALUATION OF INTERNATIONALIZED EMAIL SUPPORT AMONG GLOBAL SYSTEMS
The UASG’s most recent evaluation (UASG030A), conducted by Standcore LLC, has expanded testing of Email Address Internationalization
(EAI)-readiness among global email systems to include seven additional providers. EAI enables email addresses with either the domain name or
mailbox name in any language and script to work properly when sending and receiving emails. The additional software packages tested
include Dovecot, Halon, Mailchannels, Mozilla Thunderbird 89 Beta, Sendmail 8.17 Alpha, Spamassassin, and XgenPlus/Spamjadoo. Further, new
tests were added to determine whether the systems’ spam filters handle EAI mail. This evaluation is an extension to UASG030, which tested
more than a dozen systems and identified a handful – Apple iOS 14, Coremail, Courier, Exim, Postfix, Roundcube – with positive
EAI-readiness.
