Thank you, Brian for your message and arguments.
We will start f2f meeting with discussion of the model. We won't make substantive progress on the initial report without closing gaps in the current thinking. Nevertheless, I would like to get sense whether the proposed model can be basis for further work in LA or we should start from square 1.
Purpose bb will be on the agenda of tomorrow's call.
Thank you for understanding
JK

Hi Janis,

I would also support Margie’s request that we focus on the proposed hybrid model during our f2f meeting for two reasons:

  1. As we’ve discussed, the proposed framework is a starting point and requires a lot of work. Shifting course to discussing a hybrid model requires a very different way of thinking about the SSAD than at least the IPC been doing since we agreed to take the “leap of faith” together and focus on a centralized model. The IPC has a call scheduled to prepare for this discussion, but unfortunately schedules do not allow us to have this call until after tomorrow’s EPDP plenary. We can have a much more productive conversation if we’re prepared.
  2. We have many important details to iron out in the hybrid model, and some of them might be new concepts, so we think this type of work seems best suited to a face to face meeting. We have already been discussing things like specificity in the Purposes Building Block, so this seems better suited to a phone/Zoom call tomorrow.

I am curious about what further edits might be required to the initial report in light of our conversations on the hybrid model? I note that the draft report we’ve been reviewing includes the hybrid model, to which I don’t think there is an objection on record.

Again, we remain ready to engage in productive and collaborative conversations on the hybrid model, and we think focusing on this during our f2f would be the most productive path forward. As you know, we are also eager to finalize the Purposes Building Block with the level of specificity required by law, so we would like to prioritize that work.

Ultimately, we will respect your decision as chair and will do our best to “shoot from the hip” tomorrow if needed. Thanks, Janis.

Hi, Margie,
Thank you for your proposal. We discussed it with Marika, Caitlin and Berry and agreed that it would be indispensable to gather initial reaction to the new model proposal during the Thursday call. Reason being that further edits of the initial report are needed prior the f2f meeting if the proposed model would gather certain level of support.
If we will finish preliminary exchange on the new model before the end of the call, we will take up purpose building block as you suggest.
Hope you can accept this suggestion.
Thank you
JK

Hi Marika & Janis -

Thank you for the agenda & updated hybrid model. I’d like to propose that we defer the discussion of this hybrid model to our F2F meeting, to enable us to solicit feedback from our constituency on the proposal. Instead, we suggest that Thursday’s call focus on discussion on substantive issues, such as the language for the Purposes Building Block.

All the best,

Margie

Dear EPDP Team,

Please find below the proposed agenda for the next EPDP Team meeting which is scheduled for Thursday 23 January at 14.00 UTC.

Also, you will find attached the proposal for an SSAD Hybrid able to evolve to a Centralized and Automated Model. Please consider this proposal with your respective group and come prepared to Thursday’s meeting to share your groups feedback – this will be crucial to prepare for a productive F2F meeting. Do note that updates to the preliminary recommendations in the proposal only relate to changes that would bring the preliminary recommendations in line with the proposal described in the document – other comments and/or highlights have been removed for ease of reading and will be considered after the group’s review of the proposal.

Best regards,

Caitlin, Berry and Marika
