Hello again everyone,

To follow up on the draft timeline we circulated yesterday, the staff team thought you’d like to know that our colleagues who support each of your groups are coordinating on ICANN77 scheduling and will be requesting the two sessions at ICANN77 that I referenced below. In this regard, the staff team would like to seek your view as to whether these two sessions will be closed to observers, or whether – given, especially, the fact that by that time the draft Framework will have already been publicly distributed and community input hopefully received – they ought to be open to observers to attend.

By way of background, as some of you know, the community’s preference for ICANN Public Meetings is that by “default” as many community sessions as possible are open rather than closed. “Open” sessions can take a variety of forms, depending on the purpose of the sessions, and can include – as is the case with many GAC and GNSO Council meetings – providing speaking rights only to group members and invited guests.

We hope that the above information is useful as you review the draft timeline, which the staff team assumes you will also be sharing with your respective community leadership teams for their information and planning purposes. Please do let us know your view as to whether to conduct the two proposed ICANN77 sessions as open ones. Thank you!

Cheers
Mary (on behalf of Melissa Peters Allgood and the staff team supporting this Facilitated Dialogue)

Subject: FOR YOUR REVIEW: Draft timeline for completion of Closed Generics dialogue work

Dear all,

With thanks to Terri for scheduling the rest of our April calls in her usual efficient way, please find attached the proposed timeline that the staff team presented on the call earlier today.

As we mentioned on the call, staff has not shared this timeline with anyone outside the dialogue group. However, our understanding is that the GNSO Council leadership will greatly appreciate an initial Framework being circulated for community input prior to its 15 May meeting, where it will likely begin discussing a potential timeline and project plan for the subsequent policy work to come.

We have endeavored to incorporate your feedback from last week’s call, including building in a limited number of meetings following the provision of community input for the group to meet, to discuss whether specific clarifications to the Framework may be necessary. This includes two sessions that the staff team will request on your behalf during ICANN77. We have also added time and flexibility for the ALAC and the GAC to perform a final review and sign-off on the Framework after the GNSO Council submits an initial policy timeline and plan to the Board on 15 June.

We hope this proposed timeline is feasible and meets your group’s needs and expectations. Thank you!

Cheers
Mary (on behalf of Melissa Peters Allgood and the staff team supporting this Facilitated Dialogue)
