Hi folks,
Afnic, the registry operator for .fr (France) maintained a list of
"fundamental terms" -- names that are reserved for one reason or
another. This policy was later changed due to a court decision, see:
http://www.hoganlovells.com/files/Publication/b5f57d37-4db5-4293-84db-64d283faf5b1/Presentation/PublicationAttachment/c2ce961f-1a53-4f4f-a59b-6b73090842d2/Anyone%20may%20now%20apply%20for%20‘fundamental’%20terms%20under%20‘.fr’.pdf
That list of names is at:
http://www.afnic.fr/fr/ressources/documents-de-reference/chartes/termes-soumis-a-examen-prealable/
and I find it interesting that only a small set of IGO-related names
are on the list:
Organismes Internationaux
asean, bird, bit, casque-bleu, casque-bleus, casquebleu, casquebleus,
casques-bleu, casques-bleus, casquesbleu, casquesbleus, ceca, cee,
cij, cjce, cnuced, euratom, fao, gatt, gmi, kafor, kfor, nato, omi,
omm, ompi, oms, ong, onu, opep, otan, oua, pnud, tpi, uit, uncitral,
unidir, unrwa, wipo, xxunesco
(much shorter than the ICANN reserved list, for example)
