[gnso-rpm-wg] Need to Complete and Post SOIs ASAP

Dear all,

Thanks to George and Greg for their suggestions, and to Phil for sending out the reminder to those who have yet to fill in or update their Statements of Interests (SOI), and for noting that the sections on “Stakeholder Group” and “Constituency" refer to your existing membership in a GNSO Stakeholder Group or Constituency, if any. Please note that you are not required be a member of a GNSO Stakeholder Group or Constituency to participate in a GNSO Working Group (though, as Greg notes, you may consider applying for membership to the relevant group if you are interested in doing so).

In relation to George’s suggestion, while staff is generally happy to assist, I’m concerned that it may be inappropriate for staff to edit a WG member’s SOI page for two reasons. First, the SOI is a declaration of a member’s interests that may affect that member’s judgment in terms of the work to be undertaken by a WG, and there are provisions and potential consequences for a WG member if there are inaccuracies; and secondly, some members may need to update their SOIs in relation to other WGs in which they are participating in addition to this one. As such, we hope that WG members will take a moment to check and either create or update their SOIs.

For those who may require assistance, here are some tips that we hope will be helpful:

To create a new Statement of Interest on the GNSO Wiki space: https://community.icann.org/x/cYLg

  * If you do not have a wiki login, please check your emails for an email subject “Please complete your Statement of Interest”. You will find all login and SOI creation instructions there.
  * If you do have a wiki login and password, please login to the wiki space (url above) and follow instructions there
  * If you do have a wiki login, but cannot remember your password, please go here: https://community.icann.org/forgotuserpassword.action

To edit an existing Statement of Interest on the GNSO Wiki space: https://community.icann.org/x/cYLg

  * Follow instructions to “Update my SOI”
  * If you do have a wiki login and password, please login to the wiki space (url above) and follow instructions there
  * If you do have a wiki login, but cannot remember your password, please go here: https://community.icann.org/forgotuserpassword.action

In case of any difficulty with your login, password, SOI creation, please gnso-secs at icann.org<applewebdata://93C54FE7-7123-49F4-B233-E9F521ADE961/gnso-secs@icann.org> for further assistance.

Thanks and cheers
Mary

Thanks for that very useful clarification, Greg.

I would add one more note for those adding/updating SOIs, especially ICANN newcomers. There seems to be some confusion about what to do when the SOI form or the WG asks for Stakeholder Group/Constituency (SG/C) affiliation.

Where the SOI (and this Working Group) asks for SG/C affiliation, this refers to formal membership in a SG and/or a C (i.e., you have applied for and been granted membership by that SG and/or C, or you are a designated representative to that SG/C on behalf of an organization or employer). It does not refer to an aspiration or alignment with the goals of an SG/C -- just actual membership.

A number of participants seem to be listing SG/Cs (on their SOIs and in the WG records) without being members. This is incorrect and could be confusing and/or misleading.

However, consider this an invitation rather than a problem: all of the SGs and Cs are happy to take membership applications from applicants that meet their membership criteria. The ICANN experience can be a lot more meaningful and productive when you are a member of an SG/C (or an AC, such as ALAC). So, if you are not a member of an SG/C or an AC, look at the various organizations and see if there's one that seems appropriate, and apply. If none fit, or you would simply prefer to continue as an "Individual" participant in ICANN activities, that is fine, too. Regardless, it's important that the SOIs and WG records accurately reflect a participant's actual and present status.

Thanks for your attention to this.

P.S. I'm with George -- Question 12 should be answered accurately and updated when necessary. Nothing is self-evident when looking at a SOI, except what's there. I'm checking mine as soon as I send this email....

Many (most?) members who already had SOIs on the wiki prior to this
working group's creation will need to update their SOI in order to add
this working group to the answer to #12:

which you are participating (include acronyms, if applicable):"

Perhaps an ICANN staff member, if they have bulk access, can
add/append this working group to each of the SOIs of members listed
at:

https://community.icann.org/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=58729950

That would save 100+ members from having to log-in individually (if
they even remember their passwords) to make the updates themselves.
