Hi Joan and Manal
Just to catch you both up with what I am proposing for our Joint
ALAC-GAC-NPOC Communications session on Saturday at 5pm-6.30pm
On
https://community.icann.org/display/atlarge/At-Large+Meetings+-+Saturday%2C+02+November+2019
you
will find the session below.
Although the staff has also made it a capacity building session, that is
not really my intention because I do not believe we will have time...
My aim is for us (the ALAC-GAC-NPOC teams) to strategise with ICANN Org
Comms teams as to how we can work together to provide suitable and
appropriate ICANN Policy information for our members to build their own
capacity and to use for outreach within their communities.
My goal is threefold:
1. What is ICANN Org prioritising as Communications Outputs for 2020 (the
ITI/ITP group will probably be a focus group but we still have to learn
what THEY are doing.) Are their comms outputs targeting *our* end-users?
Is there any attempt being made to make the language that ICANN uses to
introduce new policy issues more easily understood by our non-technical
end-users so that they can confidently participate in the discussions at
ICANN meetings, or even ask the right questions?
2. How can our groups work together with ICANN Comms teams to develop
suitable resources that will help to build better understanding of
important issues under discussion by our respective members. What
platforms / media can we access together to produce resources that will
encourage more understanding and engagement by our three groups?
3. What resources are we each working on individually, using strengths and
talents from within our own workforces, to contribute towards and share, to
develop a suitable toolkit on new policy topics - remembering that some
topics for example SubPro, incorporates topics that are development of
earlier topics - such as enhancing the 2012 applicant guidelines in case
there is another round.
But the programme will sort of follow what is below: intro - chat - group
discussions - feedback - next steps.
