I realize that this is not going to be popular / likely to succeed,
but we seem to have created a lot of confusion for ourselves by
desperately trying to avoid calling them "letters"; the term "letter"
is the colloquial term, and I think that we all largely instinctively
understand what it means - I know I hear root server operators, dns
people, etc continuing to use the term without confusion -- I still
believe we would be well suited to just "call a spade a spade", and
not overcomplicate things....

I don't think the execution is relevant when it was obviously a bad
idea in the first place.
This is like putting rabid weasels in your pants, and later expressing
regret at having chosen those particular rabid weasels and that pair
of pants.
