You can download github automatic archives and tz versioned archives with curl
or wget, as below: wget returns exit codes on problems.
The automatic archives have different bits of git hashes appended to both tar
file names and tarred directory names, whereas the versioned archives have only
tz versions in both tar file names and tarred directory names.
