For your convenience, SSAC51 can be found here: https://www.icann.org/en/system/files/files/sac-051-en.pdf. As a reminder, for other key inputs, please see https://community.icann.org/x/R4xlAw.

Paul

Please read (if you haven’t already) SSAC 51 on the use of the ‘Whois' term and why all that time ago, the SSAC recommended more precise wording when talking about registration data (services, the actual data and the protocol) so that people could avoid the confusion raised by using ‘Whois’ terminology and be very clear on what was being referred to.

So maybe we can now focus - please - on using the SSAC’s preferred language and on referring to RDDS or RDAP - and the issues raised by the RDAP protocols.

To what extent should we stop using references to Whois, and start talking specifically about the RADP protocols that have been designed for the 21st century internet, and to what extent if any do they address the problems with registration data bases that you have identified -

Well, I think that the SSAC answered this some time ago, by inventing
the notion of the RDDS. By extension we somehow got the RDS, which is
what this WG is supposed to be talking about. But we won't be helped
in that effort if we keep mentally substituting "whois" for either
RDDS or RDS.

Best regards,

A
